Years ago I wrote that Italy would lose 60% of its industrial fabric in a few years, and I was wrong. But not on the 60% of industrial fabric lost: Italian politics has managed to plaster the process and slow it down, so it is going to last a few more years.
This slowdown succeeds in avoiding the sense of alarm that would be produced by a sudden collapse: if Italy had lost the textile, the furniture industry, the car industry, the cement industry and the steel industry in the same two years, probably someone would have noticed.
On the contrary, by diluting things over time, everything is getting longer, and people do not feel alarmed: every year we lose "a little", but not much. Thus we see a "slight" deterioration of the situation. It should be compared to 20 years ago to see the difference. But Italian has very little memory of the past.
The thing I hate when I mention this process, however, is that from that moment on we go in search of the forces that push in this direction, GIVING FOR DISCOUNTED THAT ARE FOREIGN.
So, gentlemen, I have bad news: this disintegration of the Italian industrial fabric did not decide a foreign country, a foreign system of interests or a strong foreign power.

It also requires a more efficient public administration, which automatically conflicts with the corruption needs of the mafia.
When a government is influenced by the Mafia, its hidden agenda will be one of industrial disintegration. The first of the agencies that are "plotting" to destroy Italian industry is the mafia.
The Catholic Church.
Don't fool yourself, they will NEVER change. The Catholic Church, like the Mafia, lives and thrives in a situation of pain, suffering, misery and ignorance. All other environments limit their influence. As if that were not enough, all the social conquests that the adverse Catholic Church came with the industrial revolution, and the social changes that it triggered.
As if that were not enough, an industrial economy pushes people to undertake a course of study oriented towards technical, scientific and mathematical disciplines. All disciplines that the Catholic Church hates, because they couple very badly with the mass of ridiculous superstitions and meaningless rituals that the church propagates, accompanies and blesses.
In a country strongly influenced by the Catholic Church, the industry will be opposed, limited, defamed, and the hidden agenda of the Church will always be to make it disappear. The church finds itself well only in rural, poor, miserable contexts in every human sense (if you want to whip undisturbed children, you must be able to count on a layer of omerta that involves parents), and terrified by some non-existent punishment.

In the "perfect" world of these "entrepreneurs", large industries are abroad (so they do not give strange thoughts to young Italians) and small ones in Italy, so as to have desperate young people willing to be exploited.
The universities'.
The Italian industry for universities and the academic world has always been the cornerstone of scandal. First of all, for many years there were very few young people who, in certain subjects, were willing to be enslaved in the eternal underpaid PhD. To find a graduate student or researcher in many engineering faculties they had to jump through hoops, and put contracts on paper first. The young engineer had a choice, why should he lend himself to a humiliating university career?

Local politics.
Let's face it: in a world of unemployed, doing politics is simple. Just promise a piece of bread to the desperate, talk about "Citizenship income", promise jobs and recommendations, and buy votes.
Italian politics lives on desperation; in a world with many large industries we talk about the environment, school, security, equal rights, and for the political life becomes difficult. When there is little heavy industry we talk about one thing: jobs, salaries and money.
In the panorama of devastation that will emerge from Taranto, politicians will no longer have to talk about the environment. They will no longer have to talk about schools, social services, women's rights or the protection of homosexuals. Suffice it to say "if you want, I'll put a word to the competition for traffic policemen, but your whole family must vote for me", and it's done.
Moreover, the presence of industrialists introduces a type of power with which you have to mediate, because the mayor of a small town that has a large company, and perhaps only one, actually takes orders from the CEO.
All the local political class is, was and remains hostile to the existence of large industries. And when politics "decentralizes", immediately local leaders try to destroy it.
The banking system.
For an Italian bank, which is very small compared to the rest of the world, big industries are a problem. First of all, because financing them requires a level of relationship that is not the simple mortgage of the PMI "that if you don't pay, I'll take home". If a bank finances a large industry it takes a big risk, and if those go bankrupt, the bank does not have the chance to "take you home".
Instead, it is an immense source of power to have a population of SMEs, small artisans, traders and small professionals "absolutely blackmail". No banker wants to discuss on equal terms.
For the banking system the existence of other industries is a tragedy, also because they are competitors on the territory. Without large industries, those who have to finance some new activity must necessarily go to the bank, and if the activity is cultural it must necessarily ask a "foundation", which happens to be almost always financed by a bank.
If there is a big industry, first of all they often have their foundations, and then they finance (directly or not) companies, when they do not directly build the infrastructures they serve, "pro bono". The world of culture.

An industrial world, on the other hand, has a culture system where there are successful cultural events that are justified by the proceeds. This creates a distinction between those who are talented and those who are not, and the baron becomes the loser of the moment who begs for money from the patrons, while those with talent receive money from the public, become famous and have social success.
The Italian world of culture and the arts has the industrial society as its enemy, because it creates a type of artist who lives from his own work, rather than the "donations" of the various barons, politicians, banks and other powers.
As you can see, I don't need to bring up foreigners to find the enemies of Italian industry. Just look for them in Italy. There are plenty of them, and they hold enormous power over the government.
But the thing that matters most is that these powers ARE YOU LIKE. All. You can give me all the speeches you want about how much you hate the mafia, for example, but the satisfaction you feel in proving that "there is also in the north" makes me understand where you stand.
