The mountain of shit theory

Podcasting.

Podcasting.

I've decided to stop podcasting for months now for a simple reason: it takes too long compared to blogging, and what's worse, it takes a lot of time.

Let me explain: if writing an article takes me 20 minutes, these twenty minutes don't have to be in a continuous block. I have a 10 minute break at 10 and I write something. Then they call me for work. So I work, and after some time I have another five minutes. I keep writing. Then I have to do something (I know, a meeting) and so on.

At the end of the day, therefore, finding 20 minutes in a day if we talk about fragments and fragments of time is not difficult. And if I happen to have a bigger hole, I can write something, draft it and then continue later when I have time.

The podcast is different.

If you want to do a 40-60 minute podcast, you need an hour first. You need an hour of silence around you. And you can't "shorten". Then you want to take some effects out of your voice, like I know the parts where you clear your throat, and so on. So listen at least once.

They last two hours, at least, continuously.

Honestly, I don't have this time every day, and even taking two hours away from my weekend weighs me down.

So I quit. Interesting experience, because it makes it clear that it is not as easy as you think, but on the other hand it takes too much time. Writing an article takes me about twenty, maximum twenty-five minutes. I break it into 2-3 parts during the day, so it fills me with really small gaps of time: what colleagues spend to go to the smokers' cage to smoke a cigarette.

So, interesting experiment. It makes it clear that podcasting is not as simple as it seems, and therefore I also imagine what would happen to wanting to make videos for youtube. It must be a job.

So, I'd say I've learned something, but the experience ends there. It really takes too long compared to blogging.
